Toledo Elementary – Odor 1/4/24

At about 11:30 a.m. today, January 4, 2024, several staff members at Toledo Elementary School (ToES) reported a rotten egg-type smell in three areas of campus (two outside and one inside). Administrators immediately called 911 and evacuated all students and staff from the building.

Toledo Fire Department arrived quickly, used their natural gas detector sensors and determined that all levels were normal. NW Natural arrived at about 12:42 p.m. and used their detectors for natural gas and carbon monoxide and found all levels were normal.

Although students were dry, buses from First Student were dispatched and arrived at the school at 12:20 p.m. so students and staff could sit in them until the all clear was given to return to the building.

ToES received an all clear at about 12:55 p.m., and children were brought back into the building. School continued as normal with a modified lunch schedule.

We are proud of our students and staff for quickly following our emergency procedures. We are thankful to the Toledo Fire Department,  NW Natural, and Darlene from First Student for their quick response and support.
